Au-delà du PIB : réconcilier ce qui compte et ce que l'on compte, 2000, Isabelle Cassiers, Géraldine Thiry, Université catholique de Louvain. Paper published in Regards économiques, n°75, December 2009 (see http://www.uclouvain.be/regards-economiques.html). Paper previously presented at - Séminaire de politique économique, Louvain-la-Neuve, UCL-IRES, 16 October 2009 - Forum de la régulation, Paris, Sorbonne, 1-2 December 2009 Summary : The Commission on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress (known as the “Stiglitz Commission”) has officially published its report in September 2009. This publication definitely constitutes an important moment in the public sphere: it recognizes the normative scope of indicators (“what we measure affects what we do”) aswell as the growing gap between, on the one hand, what people feel or observe about their socioeconomic situation and, on the other, what aggregate measures show about it. Though being a significant contribution to the current debates, this report deserves to be further discussed. To this respect, our paper depicts, in an original transdimensional structure, the reasons (exposed in the report) to go “beyond GDP”. Going one step further, our paper critically discusses the need for a “beyond Stiglitz Report”.
